We all feel a sense of lack in life and we have been doing a lot of things to fulfill that lack. We all lived in our own fairytales until we grew up. Bollywood movies gave us the expectation of a perfect romantic relationship, A perfect family, a perfect house and what not. Our parents showed us that others are doing better than us and thus we kept trying harder to be like the people our parents admire.
All of this made us believe in a perfect life where everything will be perfect. We started to follow the path to fulfill this dream of a perfect life. We faced rejections, failure, challenges, etc. to find that perfect life. There comes a time when we feel we have achieved it all and life feels so beautiful.
But then again, something happens and our fairytale falls apart. We feel like finding something that can help us rebuild our fairytale to experience life the same way.
We thought, law of attraction, spirituality, financial coach or self help books could help us find that life.
But what happened when even after trying so hard, we couldn't have that perfect life. We turned towards temporary things. we tried finding an escape so that we don't have to face the reality.
We all had our trust broken which made it difficult to trust anyone. We had experiences which gave us self doubt to take another decision in life. We felt embarrassed to express our difficult emotions so we started suppressing them and yet we kept waiting for our dreams to be fulfilled.
What is this Search and Why?
There is a bucket list of life which makes us feel that once we achieve this, I will be happy and then comes the next one and so on. We become the chaser.
We grew up, did all the parties, dated amazing people, earned money, bought a house, then a car (or vice versa :)) and still the search continued.
The truth is that we are looking for something permanent fulfilling. Something that can touch our souls. Something that makes us feel complete. We are looking for a place where we could be accepted as we are and experience life to its fullest.
This search is born from the idea of perfection. Nobody taught us that life is imperfect. Nobody taught us to accept our mistakes and correct it, rather we were taught to feel bad about ourselves. Mistakes made us judge ourselves, not responsible for our actions.
If we accept this one truth that life is always imperfect. No matter how, hard we try, we'll always not have something or the other. The only solution is acceptance of imperfections and switching our focus towards what we have. In the process of finding perfection, we forget to appreciate what we have. Even after having so much, we feel like we have nothing. It's only because we are always focusing on the lack and not on what we already have.
Having an ambition is not wrong, but drawing a line to what means satisfaction and completeness of life is equally important. We cannot live through extremes. Life is all about having a balance between what we have and what else we need.
Life is just life, no labels attached, but what we do with what is given to us is what creates magic.
The search for this life of our dreams is our right, however, the right to create one is our duty.
